The Numerology of Tarot
Numerology is a system of beliefs surrounding numbers and their significance with how people behave, physical events, and personality traits. In Tarot, the numbers of the Minor Arcana cards go from 1-10 and also hold important meaning when doing readings. The numbers may also help you gain more insight on what stage a situation or someone's energy is currently going through at that particular time.
- If you pull a wand card, you may assume it means a call to action, however, if its a 5 of Wands, then it may mean conflict.
- Read below to get all the numerical meanings 1-10.
The Numer 1
In Tarot, the number 1 symbolizes new beginnings, opportunity, and potential. The 1's in Tarot are normally represented by the Aces of the deck.
So, let's say you pull the Ace of Cups in a reading. You know that Cups represent emotions, social connections, and fulfillment. So pulling the Ace of Cups can symbolize that the client is currently going through a potential new relationship or social connection, and pulling more cards will give you more insight on whether that connection is romantic, familial, or casual.
The Number 2
In Tarot, the number 2 symbolizes balance, partnership, and duality.
So, maybe you pull the Two of Pentacles in a reading. Pentacles symbolize your job, material possessions, and stability. I often associate the Two of Pentacles as a card of balance and duality, that someone is (most of the time) successfully balancing everything they have on their plate and distractions don't seem to affect their momentum much.
The Number 3
In Tarot, the number 3 symbolizes creativity, groups, and growth.
So, you may have pulled the Three of Swords during a reading. Swords represent thoughts, ideas, and conflict. So, pulling the Three of Swords in a reading may represent that the client has went through a conflict or breakup with another person in their life that has deeply affected them.
The Number 4
In Tarot, the number 4 represents structure, stability, and manifestation.
So, you've pulled the Four of Wands in a reading. Wands represent action, energy, and potential. I often associate the Four of Wands as the "celebration" card. It often depicts a reward or blessing that is being celebrated with others that are dear to the client.
The Number 5
In Tarot, the number 5 symbolizes change, instability, conflict, obstacles, and chaos.
So, maybe you pulled the Five of Cups during a reading. Since you know that Cups represent connections and fulfillment, you can infer as a reader that the client may be going through a conflict or unstable changes in one of their social connections that leaves them feeling like what they have may not be good enough for them anymore.
The Number 6
In Tarot, the number 6 represents communication, cooperation, and harmony.
So, maybe you pulled the Six of Pentacles in a reading. Since we know Pentacles represent money, career, and material possessions, you can infer as a reader that the client may be going through a time of financial harmony and may be in a "giving" mood.
The Number 7
In Tarot, the number 7 symbolizes reflection, assessment, and knowledge.
So, perhaps you pulled the Seven of Swords during a reading. You know Swords represent ideas, conflict, and communication. You can infer as a reader that the client may be going through a time of overworking themselves or being taken advantage of by someone else in some way. The client may be unaware of this, since this card indicates a level of sneakiness.
The Number 8
In Tarot, the number 8 symbolizes mastery, action, and accomplishment.
So, let's say you pull the Eight of Wands in a reading. Since we know that Wands represent action, energy, and creativity, you can infer as a reader that the client is going through a time of progress and is currently working on their long term goals and achievements.
The Number 9
In Tarot, the number 9 represents fruition, attainment, and fulfillment.
So, you pulled the Nine of Cups in a reading. And since you know that Cups symbolize connections, fulfillment, and emotions, you can infer as a reader that the client may be going through a time of emotional fulfillment for them. This particular card is also sometimes called the "Nine Month Card" as it may also symbolize a pregnancy.
The Number 10
In Tarot, the number 10 symbolizes completion, end of a cycle, and renewal.
So, let's say you pulled the Ten of Pentacles in a reading. Since you already know that Pentacles represent career, finances, and material possessions, you can infer as a reader that the client may be going through a time of financial security and that home life is stable and balanced.
